Constraints over Lambda Structures, Antecedent Contained Deletion, and Quantiier Identities
نویسنده
چکیده
The constraint language for lambda-structures (CLLS) allows for a simple, integrated , and underspeciied treatment of scope, ellipses, anaphora, and their interaction. CLLS features constraints for dominance, lambda binding, parallelism, and anaphoric links. In the case of antecedent contained deletion (ACD), the deenition of parallelism in the original version of CLLS is slightly too restrictive due to an overly weak notion of quantiier identity. We show how to extend CLLS with an appropriate notion of quantiier identity such that ACD can be naturally analysed. This sheds some light on connicting requirements on quantiier representations as needed for ACD and Hirschb uhler sentences.

Complexity Results for First-Order Theories of Temporal Constraints
We study the complexity of quantiier elimination and decision in rst-order theories of temporal constraints. With the exception of Ladkin, AI researchers have largely ignored this problem. We consider the rst-order theories of point and interval constraints over two time structures: the integers and the ra-tionals. We show that in all cases quantiier-elimination can be done in PSPACE. We also s...
متن کاملCOSPECTRALITY MEASURES OF GRAPHS WITH AT MOST SIX VERTICES
Cospectrality of two graphs measures the differences between the ordered spectrum of these graphs in various ways. Actually, the origin of this concept came back to Richard Brualdi's problems that are proposed in cite{braldi}: Let $G_n$ and $G'_n$ be two nonisomorphic simple graphs on $n$ vertices with spectra$$lambda_1 geq lambda_2 geq cdots geq lambda_n ;;;text{and};;; lambda'_1 geq lambda'_2...
متن کاملExplaining Ellipsis Identity
A modern statement about the structural relationship between an ellipsis site and its antecedent runs as follows. an elided XP must have a syntactically identical antecedent XP’, modulo traces This is quite a bizzare condition. Why should some parts of structure count for being identical, and others not? Of all the possible relations between two structures, why does this one describe the ellips...
متن کاملVariable Independence , Quanti er Elimination , and Constraint
Whenever we have data represented by constraints (such as order, linear, polynomial, etc.), running time for many constraint processing algorithms can be considerably lowered if it is known that certain variables in those constraints are independent of each other. For example, when one deals with spatial and temporal databases given by constraints, the projection operation, which corresponds to...
متن کاملThe algebraic lambda calculus
We introduce an extension of the pure lambda-calculus by endowing the set of terms with a structure of vector space, or more generally of module, over a xed set of scalars. Terms are moreover subject to identities similar to usual pointwise de nition of linear combinations of functions with values in a vector space. We then study a natural extension of beta-reduction in this setting: we prove i...
